Electric Forest

Khruangbin, Justice, Caribou, Tiësto, and the String Cheese Incident are among the dozens of artists set to perform at this year’s Electric Forest music festival, which sees the Double JJ Resort on the west side of the state transformed into a neon wonderland.

Tommy Wiseau Double Feature

Tommy Wiseau’s 2003 film The Room is the best bad movie ever made. Written, directed, and produced by Wiseau, who also stars in it, the film has earned cult favorite status thanks to its perfect combination of bizarre writing, terrible acting, and gratuitous sex scenes. Can lightning strike again? Wiseau released his latest project, Big Shark, in 2023. We haven’t seen it yet, but it looks like Wiseau’s take on Jaws, which sounds promising. The Room co-star Greg Sestero will be on hand at this Redford Theatre screening for a special Q&A.

A founding member of L.A. punk band the Angry Samoans, Gregg Turner and his band the Gregg Turner Group are at work on a new LP produced by Scott Richardson of Detroit psychedelic rock group SRC. In the meantime, Turner will perform a solo set at Bowlero, which he describes as “in the vein of Jonathan Richman” and “Lou Reed ish type stuff.”

Bounce That!: DJ Assault

Rising act HiTech is turning a new generation onto ghettotech — a made-in-the-Motor City style of high-energy club music that mixes Chicago ghetto house, electro, Detroit techno, and Miami bass. Detroit’s DJ Assault is considered the “godfather” of the sound, and this “Bounce That!” event will see him joined at Northern Lights Lounge by fellow travelers DJ Psycho, Sheefy McFly, JMT, LostBoy, and Fullbodydurag.
